The specification that separates this from cheaper cordless vacuums is not suction. It is the power-to-weight figure: up to sixty minutes quoted at 2.96 kilograms. Read the runtime carefully, though, because Dyson quotes it as a maximum and footnotes that actual run time varies with power mode, dust level, floor type and attachment. There is no published per-mode breakdown, so anyone quoting you sixty minutes in a specific mode is filling in a number the manufacturer has not given.
Whole-machine HEPA filtration means the air leaving the machine is filtered, not just the air passing through the bin. For a household with allergies that is the specification that matters most, and it is one where the cheap end of this market genuinely does not compete — a bin-level filter with leaky seals returns fine dust to the room it came from.
The laser head is the feature people either use every single time or never once. It illuminates fine dust on hard floors at an angle that makes it visible, and there is no middle ground in how people react to it. It does nothing on carpet. Note that Dyson has been revising the head across regions and generations, so check which cleaner head is in the box you are actually buying rather than the one in the review you read.
The weaknesses are ergonomic and both are real. Just under three kilograms held above your head to reach a ceiling corner is heavy, and the 0.77 litre bin is small for a machine this size, which means emptying it more often than the runtime alone would suggest. Neither is a defect; both are the cost of a machine that carries its motor and battery in your hand.
One thing we are not going to tell you is how long Dyson supplies spare parts for. That figure appears constantly in write-ups of this machine, including an earlier version of this page, and Dyson publishes no availability term anywhere we can find — not on the product page, not on the spare-parts pages, not in the warranty, which covers two years. Parts availability is the specification that decides whether a premium vacuum is cheap or expensive across a decade, and the honest position is that you should look up the current spares listing for the exact model yourself before you pay for longevity.
